Burnley Home Game Moved

Post by UxbridgeR » Thu Oct 13, 2022 1:02 pm

The first home game after the WC break against Burnley has been moved from Sat 10th Dec to Sun 11th at 1pm.

This means that the West Brom game on 5th Nov will be the last Saturday home game until Swansea on 21st Jan.

Oh well that will wreck the Christmas takings for the club shop too - absolute ridiculous situation, just like last season when we went for ages without a Saturday game at HQ.

Awesome, another £75k into the clubs coffers, every little helps.

To be fair, it's hard to blame the club here. The break for the World Cup accounts for a month, and the home games around Christmas and New Year happen to fall on weekdays. Burnley was the only scheduled Saturday home game during that period anyway.

All three of our games during the festive period have now been moved for Sky coverage :

"The dates for all three games are unchanged, but the kick-off times - which have been altered as a result - are now as follows:

Cardiff City v QPR - Sky Bet Championship - Monday 26th December 2022, KO 5.15pm
QPR v Luton Town - Sky Bet Championship - Thursday 29th December 2022, KO 6pm
QPR v Sheffield United - Sky Bet Championship - Monday 2nd January 2023, KO 8pm"

Great kick-off times there. Congrats to all involved. Remember, football is nothing without fans.

The SU one is particularly sheiser.

Yes, that one annoyed me too, although some people are more upset about the Luton 6pm KO, which is tricky if you have to work between Christmas and New Year.

Oh I can now go and see us spank Luton if I can sober up enough.

It's appalling that the next 3pm Saturday home match after Saturday is
on the 21st of January, that's over 2 months away from now

Let's hope we can make the most of Saturday! :) Plus, all credit to those making the trip tonight. I hope the lads make it worthwhile.

Stick with Saturday 3pm because we are bottom half of the table; or have our games moved around regularly whilst also earning TV income because we are flying high. I know which I prefer!!

Well that may be all well and good from the point of view of the club's finances, but what about from a fan's perspective ? Is any kick-off time OK if the club makes a few quid from it ? It's hard to see how a 6pm KO on a Thursday evening makes sense for anyone but Sky, so they can crowbar in as mucb live football as possible.
More amd more fans will stop buying season tickets as the economics of having one are increasingly unpredictable. I don't think that's a positive development for the club long-term.

Absolutely. It gets harder and harder to justify getting a season ticket. One home game moved to 6pm on a work day for many over Christmas, another moved from 3pm to become a night game with work the next day. And all, as you say, so Sky can cram in as many games as possible.
