Why is it that you cannot be out lbw if the ball pitches leg side. Would it make it easier for the bowler. Currently watching the one day. I don't want any reply along the line "because the laws of cricket say so". What is the reason for the law

It used to be balls outside off stump too i.e. you could only be LBW if the ball pitched within the line of the stumps. The laws were changed years ago to allow balls outside off stump in an effort to prevent "Bodyline" bowling.

If balls that pitched outside leg were allowed, it would also encourage negative round the wicket bowling with it just speared into the pads at an awkward angle.

If they were to change anything about the law it should be to get rid of the protection a batsman gets when hit outside the line of off if the're making a genuine attempt to play the ball. I turned down one on Saturday where the bowler did the batsman (who was named 'Bowler', confusingly enough) all ends up and the ball was going to hit around middle and off but it hit him just outside the line.
