Where is our new support coming from?

Post by Wegerle » Fri Feb 16, 2024 4:05 pm

Another 2500 travelling to Bristol tomorrow and our home attendances are up by quite a lot this season. Amazing support considering our performances but I was just wondering where have all these ''new'' fans come from this season?

It's amazing. When I first started this veil of tears in the 50s we sometimes only had 5k-7k odd for home games.
As for recent spike in attendances, I imagine it's existing fans showing solidarity with the club rather than new fans although that's just an assumption on my part.
We can only hope that the fans continue like this next season whichever division we're in.
Relegation won't stop me renewing my ST.
Now how about the players doing their bit ?

the support recently has been impressive. a total sell out against Norwich for a struggling team in the bottom 3 is very good.

Have to admit

the last 2 games ive been to Cardiff and Norwich (I ALWAYS SHOW UP ON THE DAY TO GET MY TICKETS) ive thought wow why so many fans? the Norwich game in particular was a very good atmosphere.

had to sit in the upper loft against Cardiff 41 quid (worse view ive ever had at loftus road)
Norwich South Africa Road (BHATIA STAND) just behind the mad mexican 37 quid decent view and Atmos so worth every penny

my usual seats in the ellerslie (STAN BOWLES) seem to be selling before match days so might have to purchase before the game from now on

Honestly though are there any theories knocking about as to why we’re getting better attendances? It does seem strange?

The drama of a tight relegation battle maybe? But that doesn’t seem very likely.

its not as if the tickets are affordable to be doing it on the cheap? probably just as expensive as Possibly Fulham? Chelsea? Arsenal? Tottenham?

would expect Brentford, Millwall, Charlton far cheaper?

I agree it's strange, especially after what has to be among the shittest 18 months in the club's history. The other thing is, the crowds don't seem to be that restive either. Usually I think of QPR as quite an angry, hard to please set of fans, but the crowds seem more supportive than usual.

New or rekindled?
Anyone know if more season tickets sold this season??

Or is it we're so 'post-boutique' as to now be simply irresistable?

Maybe it's Marti's shiny jacket?

An interesting point made on another forum. Is the focus of this support on the players or Marti ? I would probably say the latter - he's been taken to the hearts of fans really quickly, a couple of songs dedicated to him already.
I'm sure most of us have misgivings still, about at least some of the players.

Not sure it is Marti because it's been up for a while, going back into last season. This season, we've only had four games with less than 16,000 attendance, and three of them were midweek. It's much better than before the pandemic.

And two of the four were in the cups.

So, only Blackburn and Swansea in the league below 16,000
