Just got back ...
Well, that was so much better than anything I've watched so far this season. Horrible conditions, it was cold and wet - I don't think it stopped raining all afternoon. A good turn out from the R's fans - 1100 made the trip. In good heart and song all afternoon which was in sharp contrast to our last visit there and a 3-1 defeat.
We played football! On the floor, pass and move, it was very easy on the eye. Every player seemed up for it, and it was the best performance I've seen form a QPR side in a very long time. I am confident we have made a good decision in getting Marti Cifuentes, if he can make this much difference in 4 days, I'm excited to see what he will do in 4 weeks or 4 months. No hoofball today, or anything like, and the players seemed much happier for that.
Chair's goal on 50 minutes was a thing of beauty, he cut in from the left and curled one at pace into the top corner from just inside the box. Their keeper had no chance. To be fair we had chances to increase our lead as we were dominating possession and creating chances (that we just couldn't take). However, Sam Field not for the first time in his QPR career tried to make a tackle that was never on. He was behind their player and lunged for the ball, either fouling their player or giving him the opportunity to go down and make it look like he had been fouled. Any referee will give a free kick in those circumstances 9 times out of 10. Sam stop it! The free kick was hit to the far post and their player got there before the covering defender (not sure who) and they scored from 3 yards out. We had the better chances and might have won it late on, but lady luck was not on our side.
Everyone played their part, and there were no passengers. Even the subs. Although Albert appeared to pull his hamstring, and was subbed 10 minutes after coming on.
I think even the most ardent Rotherham fan would have few complaints if we had taken all 3 points.
I was loving the new Marti Cifuentes song, even though I couldn't make out all the words. Could somebody oblige and share them please. Similarly the Reggie Cannon song was hard to catch too.
I think Marti will be very popular with the QPR fans, and he came over to wave and clap the fans both before and after the game. He gave a pretty decent post match interview too.
I'm feeling really positive, and I think next Saturday could see us get our first home win of the season. If we play like we did today, we will definitely be in with a shout.
Onward and upward.
UR's!
One other thing ...
We really do need to cut out the silly stuff. Chair was booked for kicking the ball away in the first half. Silly, petulant, and could have been costly. I really hope Marti tightens up the discipline.
That was his 5th booking of the season - is that a suspension? if so, he should hang his head in shame. There is taking one for the team, and there is stupidity.

He put in a shift. However, it is still early days. I think the whole coaching outlook across the club is likely to change for the better in the coming months. With the greatest of respect to Gareth, I didn't see him as someone who would improve players. Cifuentes, I think will do that, or is much more likely to do so.

Re: Just got back ...
Thanks for your report Zen. Well done to you and the other Rs that made that long trip. Today was very encouraging. I'm actually looking forward to next week now. I can't remember the last time I thought that let alone said it!
