Re: Gareth has gone
This leaves a bitter sweet taste. Yes, something had to change but Gareth is such a decent bloke and this was his dream job. He loves QPR.
A lot of things he could have done better but never forget the very poor squad he had at his disposal.
Thanks Gareth, you're still a QPR player legend to me.

Re: Gareth has gone
We’ll find out how poor, or not the squad is when the next person has a go - I didn’t want to assume it would be a man.
I’ll always have respect for him as a person and a lover of QPR, he had a shot and it was about as poor as I’ve ever seen.

Re: Gareth has gone
Bitter sweet really. He had to go, and as said above we'll get a better idea of what these players are about.
He had a heart like a horse as a player but never likely to succeed here as a manager. I could have done without the Wild Thang stuff but of course it was the fans that called him that !
Best of luck Gareth.

Put out of his misery at last. Terrible appointment. Totally out of his depth.

Re: Gareth has gone
Genuinely sorry that it never worked out for Gareth and he remains a QPR hero for me for everything he did for us as a player. Whoever takes over will struggle to get a tune out of the squad of players we have right now but can understand why we have made the change.
The next managerial appointment is crucial on so many levels.

Re: Gareth has gone
I actually have no problem with Gareth's appointment. Given the circumstances it was a good shout in my opinion. Warburton, Beale and Critchley had all failed to fully motivate this squad and Gareth brought a new approach and at the time his positivity was very much needed and ultimately kept us up.
Gareth's signings were also sound in my opinion adding 'cheap' experience to the squad but we certainly needed more than these players. Gareth's appointment of Ben Williams should reap rewards in the future. After an awful start this season things did look better for a brief period but then unravelled with Colback's red card.
Gareth has had some rotten luck, as with today's deflected goal, but this is very much a results business and it was difficult to see Gareth turning this around so a change was necessary. At times his tactics, line ups and substitutions were bewildering but you can the same about every manager!
I just hope that his replacement has NO previous QPR connections!
Cheers Gareth, sorry it didn't work out. I hope your boys and anyone involved with recruitment at our club are taking a long hard look in the mirror tonight.

I'm feeling very sad about him going but as others have said it's a results buisness and there is no way we can afford to be relegated.

Re: Gareth has gone
An all too predictable end to GA’s tenure. His appointment was made to take the heat off the owners, which it successfully did in the short term, but it has profoundly damaged the club overall. No one could doubt his work ethic and desire to turn things around, but it has been genuinely painful to watch far too often. Some of the worst performances I’ve seen in the last 20+ years have been during his time in charge, and while he was dealt a poor hand, he rarely seemed to have a clue on how to make the best of his limited options.
Feels like a weird time to sack him in a way, as in isolation, today’s performance was far from the worst we’ve seen, and I thought it would have earned him another week at least. It would only have been delaying the inevitable though.

Re: Gareth has gone
I agree with Rbee.
It's easy to overlook how bad things were when he took over -- just one win from 17 games. I don't know if there is a player mutiny or what, but obviously something is going badly wrong beyond the managers.
He did enough to keep us in the division but, ultimately, his job is to manage the players and he couldn't ring the changes sufficiently to turn things around.

Re: Gareth has gone
Exactly. Gareth's approach was one of positivity and building team spirit. Something the squad didn't respond to. It's now time to rattle some cages, some kicks up the backside, some old fashioned boot throwing.
The players need guidance but also a reality check that if they don't want to spend the rest of their careers in the lower divisions then now is the time to stand up and get their act together.
Over to you Neil.

Re: Gareth has gone
Does anyone know for certain why Kelman was picked ahead of Willock yesterday, or why Willock wasn’t being picked to play more generally? I do feel like we deserve an explanation because things could be looking quite different with him in the side?
