Torn on GA's post match interview
On the one hand I saw a decent performance by us yesterday. Much better than I thought we would do a couple of weeks ago.
On the other hand we have again lost 2 home matches in a week without scoring which seems like a continuation of last season.
I hear and understand Gareths optimism but it also feels a bit like he is gloryfing every defeat. I hope that besides heaping on the praise after every game he is also capable of being critical within the group.
The lack of fire power and continuation of our bad home form is a big worry. I hope his optimism turns into results quickly for him, the team and us.

There's certainly been a marked improvement since the Watford game, but that was from an abysmally low starting point. Despite the positive signs, we've lost and failed to score in three out of four games, and conceded in all four. We also look as if we will be heavily reliant on a 20 year old striker who can't last much longer than an hour. I do hope they're planning to bring in at least one more option up front before the window closes.

The effort is certainly there from the players - even a bit of enthusiasm, apart from maybe Willock.
Illy Chair seems depressed to me, almost as much as Dickie last year.
Fitness is now our big problem. God knows who'll be available for these two murderous away games impending. Has Armstrong ever done 90 mins ? Even if we bring another couple in, they'll be out-of-contractors who haven't played since the spring.
I shouldn't be at all surprised if Chris Martin returns but he won't be match fit until about mid-October.

If does feel like an improvement but we need to get those wins before we have our usual January meltdown .
Also, we have been needing more championship worthy strikers for years. We can't just rely on dykes and Armstrong week in week out.

Personally I’ve struggled with a lot of his interviews, particularly last season, but I agreed wholeheartedly with this one.
We play like that every week and we’ll win a lot more than we lose.
It’s fine lines, but on the balance of play we should have won that.

Rayan Kolli might prove to be a useful addition to our attaching options. I liked what I saw of him on Saturday, and also at Bedford a few weeks ago. He's 18, but didn't look out of place when he came on as a sub against Ipswich.

I totally agree and think / hope GA's optimism isn't misplaced. That said, I have a nagging concern that the longer the results take to come, the more the belief will drain and we will 'rinse & repeat' the past couple of seasons.
Question everything.

Re: Torn on GA's post match interview
What is he supposed to say? "We were crap, and couldn't score in a month of Sundays"? Part of his job is to motivate the team. Talking about the positives and trying to encourage improvement is what he's there for. Oddly, it's what we the fans should be there for, but so many take the opposite view.
This concept of encouraging individual players will be lost on many QPR fans, who are quick to criticise and usually have at least one player who is targeted for abuse and negativity. That is currently Andre Dozzell in pole position.
Here's the thing, he's a human being and will be well aware of the abuse he is taking. That abuse and criticism probably won't motivate him to try harder, or be better. In fact, he wont take any risks, and that's not good for the team. Over time, it just destroys any self belief. We have seen this many times over going back many many years. I cannot think of a single example where QPR fans giving a QPR player grief has had a positive affect.

Zenith, you seem to have misconstrued my comments and run off in a completely direction. To be clear, in the first instance I was simply agreeing with SM, whilst also alluding to the fact that results are required to build / maintain belief and confidence, which in turn leads to greater consistency. Saturday should have yielded 3 points and I, for one, am not dismissing the possibility of us achieving positive results at Southampton and / or Boro.ZENITH R wrote: ↑Wed Aug 23, 2023 8:43 amWhat is he supposed to say? Re: Torn on GA's post match interview
It’s a tricky one isn’t it really… though I don’t disagree with his comments at the weekend, ultimately, assuming we lose at Southampton on Saturday it’ll be three points from
12 and three losses in four.
Despite the spirited performances against Ipswich and Norwich we’ll have very little to show and will put a bit of pressure on the Middlesbrough away game before the break. The press won’t quote the context of the plight and I’d imagine he’ll suddenly have some fingers pointing at him.
I think for his own sake he really needs to get at least a point or two out of these next two away games or it could get rather toxic again.
