Never been a TV person myself but just saw the 6 o'clock news - amazing the people he had on his shows. Even Fred Astaire and James Cagney.

Just watched 50 years of Parkinson. He was quite something wasn't he ?

The epitome of a consummate professional broadcaster. Parky always researched his guests thoroughly and unlike today's 'chat shows' the guests weren't there to answer banal pre-agreed questions and for promotion purposes.

I believe he also once played a decent standard of cricket alongside Geoff Boycott & Dickie Bird at Barnsley Cricket Club.
