Leon Balogun

Post by ZENITH R » Fri Aug 26, 2022 5:28 pm

Has signed on a one year deal.

He is a 34 year old defender, most recently at Glasgow Rangers. He has joined on a free.

Interesting signing. Came out of left field really. Clearly the club saw an opportunity and brought him in.
From what I know of him he's a strong defender, relatively quick for his size 6'3".
He'll be a good acquisition.

It's likely that another CB either means we're shipping Masterton etc out on loan or we're looking to deploy 3 at the back.

Or Rob Dickie is off to Man Utd for £20m 😀

It's either three at the back, Dickie is being sold to finance a striker ( we can't give Bonne away ) or JSC is injured worse than is being admitted....

I fancy 2 or 3 to be honest...
2023/2024.... Keep Calm, no matter the season, we'll follow our team.....

We need a bit of experience at the back.

Rangers fans speak very highly of him, and worked with Mb before. Not quite sure what it says for our DOF (especially with the links to other players), but looks a good signing on paper.

Looking at this signing, think Lee Wallace. After a dodgy start he became a brick in our defence. Sadly his age and injuries caught up with him. On a one year deal, this move for Balogun is a good move.

It seems a strange one to me, unless the likes of Dickie or Dunne are on their way to bring in some money. After the initial signings of Clarke-Salter and Paal, three loan players and a 34 year old on a one year contract suggest a reversion to short-term thinking rather than sticking with our broadly stated strategy. I don’t know if that’s because the results and performances so far haven’t been great, but It does feel as if there may be a bit of panic in the air again.

Beale always talks about being fluid in formation with 3 or 4 at the back but with JCS injured we cant really do that. I guess this just gives him a bit more flexibility.
