I think in the long term you need your name or another reliable poster on the contract.
Think still have your details, will send some donations over.

This is just another quick update on where we’ve got to with getting costs down on the message board.

Current costs are very high and probably unsustainable, even with the very generous sponsorship of many posters.

ActonArthur (Martin) has looked at our usage statistics and it does seem like we should be able to get a much cheaper deal. We’re not a party to the contract with the current hosting provider, so they can’t negotiate a lower price with us.

With that in mind Martin has very kindly been spending some time attempting to migrate all the data from this site onto a back up site, including all historical posts, membership details, logins etc. There have been a few bugs/technical issues migrating everything across, but the hope is that we can just close down this message board and open the new one (at a much lower monthly cost) seamlessly in few months time once we’ve ironed out the technical issues.

There is the possibility that we won’t be able to iron out all the issues. If that happens we propose starting afresh on a new message board that looks and feels like the existing one (and with a link to the archive of the old message board for anyone who wants to look back at it). If we do that users will need to sign up again, but other than that it should work in the same way.

Both options would reduce hosting costs significantly from about £79.20 per month to £25. It will also mean me and Martin will have our names on the contract and can negotiate any changes we might need going forward.

We’re looking to migrate to the new site at the end of the season, so I’m hoping we can get one last round of donations to get us to May. We’ve got a balance of £42 in our account. I’ll stick in another £80, which means we need roughly £120 more to get to the end of the season.

Staines and AA, thank you for all you are doing to keep the board alive and to improve it going forward.

You should see a donation from me for £80 via PP.

Thanks Arthur - I wish I could help techwise, but to me high tech is a microwave oven.
