A late run to the playoffs

Post by Bevan » Wed Feb 26, 2020 10:30 am

Yes I know it’s unlikely, but other than a tough away trip to Preston and West Brom the last day of the season, the run in looks kind... so winning 9 of our last 12 should be enough to bag us a playoff spot shifty

Now someone pass me the whisky :)

To sneak into the playoffs would give some much needed cash and maybe help us keep this team together for next season.
This is NOT the same as expecting/hoping/dreaming of promotion this year.

There is no financial benefit to finishing higher in the Championship. The only difference is how many times a club appears on Sky; it is between £100-140k for the home team and £10k for the away team.

How much does the club receive for midweek matches on the “red button” ? It would seem that attendances suffer as a result of this arrangement.

There’d be the gate money and maybe a replay or two. And it would be a big morale booster for the players and supporters. Maybe sell some more ST’s for next season.

Lets not get ahead of ourselves lads. We're playing good football, but there's still a lot to do. Of course I'd love to see us in the playoffs, but a top 10 finish is probably more realistic.

Sorry to say it but it would be just Rangers luck that we'd storm into the PO final and play in front of an empty Wembley stadium. aniwall

How pointless is the ‘no handshaking policy?’

After todays result we are 12th, which is exactly mid-table. We are on 50 points which, I would dare suggest, means we are safe.
We have achieved our objection with 9 games to go. Time to celebrate.
However, we are so far off PL level that I really don't want us to sneak in to the play offs. Lets keep on building step by step, build a strong foundation and who knows what the future brings.

The crazy thing is we have dropped silly points at home (Birmingham, Charlton, Reading and MBoro come to mind), all of which we were winning and looking comfortable. Those 8 points would've cemented our place in the top 6 and we would be saying we deserve to be there.

Barring a catastrophe, I think we can all agree the team has surpassed our expectations this season and for the first time in ages have been a joy to watch. A flirt with the playoffs may certainly help keep the team together although realistically we aren't as good as the teams in the top 6 or the 20 teams in the premier for that matter. And it's unlikely we'll keep this squad together come the summer transfer window if we don't go up.

So lets just enjoy this season

Especially as after the no handshaking line up before the start, two PNE players went and shook the hands of the ref and his team. You couldn't make this shit up could you?
