Re: Pay at the BBC
They like to refer to their pool of people as their “talent”. There are various game and panel shows on TV utilising them. They come across mostly as witless and boring.

I think she's lovely, but she's a feminist so we wouldn't get on, but there again if she wants to work and I can stay at home then I'm all for girl power!old pauline wrote: ↑Fri Jan 26, 2018 1:13 pmYou are forgetting the stupid facial expressions that Fiona Bruce pullsSheepRanger wrote: ↑Fri Jan 26, 2018 6:59 am£600k to read the news from an autocue!

Whilst I agree that women should be paid at the same rate as men, these people just don't seem to grasp just how overpaid these media types are. People often cite nurses's pay when discussing this but I've just discovered that average GP salary at my local health centre is £63k. About a tenth of what some newsreaders get. For this they see up to 40 patients per day, some really obnoxious people with vile diseases and then spend a couple of hours doing the admin. And don't forget the years of training they've had to undergo. It's outrageous.

And being in the Police is worse. Basic internet research shows a PC can start on £19,191 and goes to a maximum of £37,254
Even with allowances on top it would be a no thank you very much from me.

Need career constables as well as those who progress further. Too many scallies out there.SheepRanger wrote: ↑Thu Feb 01, 2018 4:13 pmAnd being in the Police is worse. Basic internet research shows a PC can start on £19,191 and goes to a maximum of £37,254

Keep an open mind, but not so open that your brain falls out.

Well, that's what happens when you let the market dictate wages. If only there were another way.

There is no such thing as "common sense" that's just the expression of bourgoise ideology. Don't they teach orthodox Marxism in schools anymore?SheepRanger wrote: ↑Mon Feb 05, 2018 8:54 amLike common sense?DroopStreetOldBoys wrote: ↑Mon Feb 05, 2018 1:02 amWell, that's what happens when you let the market dictate wages. Yes, they have lessons on what the public sector do now and my friend's son wants to be join the Police in their armed response unit as a result.DroopStreetOldBoys wrote: ↑Mon Feb 05, 2018 11:42 amThere is no such thing as "common sense" that's just the expression of bourgoise ideology. There's a big push, not brainwashing, to get kids interested in civil service jobs where there are plenty of vacancies at the lowest wages on the market. Isn't that what Marxism is about, getting them working for the State for a couple of potatoes a day?

Can't disagree with this but let's not forget we watch football where at the extreme players can earn over £200k a week.222gers wrote: ↑Thu Feb 01, 2018 2:29 pmWhilst I agree that women should be paid at the same rate as men, these people just don't seem to grasp just how overpaid these media types are. Re: Pay at the BBC
My comment was more a sarcastic comment about the concept of trickle down economics. I fully agree that many in the BBC are grossly overpaid for their 'talents'.SheepRanger wrote: ↑Tue Feb 06, 2018 6:11 amFor entrepreneurs not glorified civil servants working for the state broadcaster. If they want to pay these wages it should be privatised, TV licence scrapped and commercial revenues sought.
Question everything.
