First I've known of anything controversial surrounding him, although it's interesting he has stopped tweeting Barton since he threatened to expose him... |
Thats the problem I have with all this SM, Linekar is no saint yet acts like he is, Shearer is no saint, Mark Saggers shares his radio station with Keys and Gray, I don't think Roy Kean should be allowed to walk the streets yet he's a football pundit.
They will all be supporting John Terry, Ashley Young and the other array of cheats and thugs during the Euro's in Ukraine yet The most fouled player in the most fouled team is publicly demonised for retaliating in a pantomime.
Hypocrites one and all. |
Great post deepsea
I somehow managed to miss that Shearer spat from a few years ago!
It's easy for everyone to jump on the anti-Barton bandwagon, like you said there is history and faults with a large amount of footballers... It just 1rarely gets a mention or anywhere near as much media coverage.
I won't be supporting England at the Euro's that's for sure. _________________ Isle Of Wight R'ssssssssss |

Its easy to have a go at him, the media love it which is why the Rebekah Brooke's thing is so funny. You wait till the next scandel about anyone who slagged off Joey and he'll remind them they're human and so will I.
QPR were the most fouled team and Joey the most fouled player in that team last season and this "hot head" hooligan only got 2 red cards both for retaliation, imagine if that was me _________________ Crying won't help you praying won't do you no good |

Lineker's always been notorious for his 'Busy Hands'. Joey was right to slag off Mary Poppins too; at least he's never kneed somebody in the head.
I find the pomposity of the media sickening. What exactly did he do? Provided a couple of minutes of top-quality entertainment that Buster Keaton would be proud of. I consider Ashley Young's dive far more offensive than Joey's antics.
Unfortunately football has more hangers-on than a limpit convention. Know-nothing journalists blathering on about Joey this and Joey that. Talksport is now talking sport 24/7. Who in their right mind phones up at 4:30am to give their opinion on whether Woy should have picked Downing or not? These people should be committed for the benefit of society. |

Where are you living Albert (and in what century)? The country no longer goes to sleep one hour after pub closing time (IE Midnight).
I'm sure if you ever wake up ill in the night (or whatever) you'd appreciate someone to be around to look after you. Not to mention baking your bread, pushing your stocks and shares around the World's markets or serving coffee to the folk pushing the buttons so we get Golf from the USA or Cricket from the Windies on our screens? Etc.
Given that things are not quite as busy at night that just means more bored workers with time to fill and few bosses around to worry about so cue night-time radio. Imagine the possible chaos if night folk didn't have such an outlet. |

| When I started my Media Studies degree course back in the 90s we did a whole module on press ethics etc. We had a guy come in who told us loads of stuff which the press knew, but couldn't or wouldn't print. His biggest example was how all the journos knew about GL's private life, but that they chose to leave him alone because he's our national footballing hero and they liked to keep him that way rather than shatter peoples illusions. |

and
Was it seriously being suggested that of all the "press" that knew about GL, 100% agreed and decided to not print anything about his private life even though it would obviously have been a "bestseller"?!
So does the same still apply today?! Couldn't the story be leaked through Twitter a la Giggs?!
If the press can keep this under their hats then I might have to r think the whole landing on the moon thing... _________________ If you can keep your head when all around you have lost theirs, then you probably haven't understood the seriousness of the situation. |

Pretty much! This was 1996. And yes, they chose to leave him alone apparently. He also mentioned a couple of gay politicians, and said they couldn't report it because it wasn't newsworthy and that it would only be sensationalism to report it. |

Had a lift from a hotel driver in Belfast last year. He said that GL was the most odious person he has ever had in his car. Arrogant and nasty to staff. GLs management company even instructed the driver " not to talk to him." Surprisingly, Leslie Grantham and David Essex were in his opinion two gentlemen. _________________ Alone again in the lap of luxury |

Amazing comments, he's never been portrayed like that and I've never got that impression from watching him on TV...
There is no reason to doubt Caroline, but I find that absolutely extraordinary _________________ Isle Of Wight R'ssssssssss |

The fourth estate is complicit with the kleptocracy that runs the world. Of course some of that is down to the machinations of the legal system which ensures that the truth can't be published but mostly they are dependent on the current system existing for their livelihoods. Ergo a narrative is constructed in which Joey Barton is far worse than war criminals like Blair and Kissinger.
If the press told the truth then the world would descend into anarchy. |

You're confusing real life with EastEnders there Don. _________________ If you can keep your head when all around you have lost theirs, then you probably haven't understood the seriousness of the situation. |

| How pleasing that we now have a group on here that can gossip as bitchily and nastily and pointlessly over something/someone of such little importance as Gary Lineker as any group of ladies blocking an aisle in a supermarket or schoolgirls hanging around at a bus stop. |
