My appeal for donations has produced an apparent zero response, (if you have donated and I have missed it, I apologise - please let me know) and on that basis and my current financial position I am unable to sustain the costs of this message board further. At this point I should say that I am not interested in moving the board to a new host or similar suggestions at the present time.
This leaves me with two options – simply close the message board down at some point soon, which I am seriously considering. Or generate some income to support it sufficiently. Consequently, and for the immediate future and with much regret, I have decided that making posting rights access to the QPR Discussion Forum will be available to registered members who make some form of donation only. This is similar to the system employed by many message board sites where rather than have a subscription to the site as a whole, which I would prefer not to do, posting rights to one area of the site are restricted to those who donate only.
This will not affect any existing members who can post there at present, but anyone who cannot and wishes to in the future, including all new registered members, must make a donation via PayPal or similar before they are enabled to do so. Of course, any of the hundreds of existing, frequent posters who use this board are welcome to also donate - even a quid or two will help.
The access to the board is now summarised below
Read messages in all forums:
Guests/anyone
Post messages in all but QPR Discussion Forum:
Registered members only
Post messages in QPR Discussion Forum:
Existing enabled posters. New posters who make a donation.
Please Note: - all existing message board rules still apply.

Is this still the same regarding posting to the QPR Discussion board? My welcome email said something slightly different.
I'd be happy to donate to use the QPR board, but only once I was happy WITH the QPR board. I hope that makes sense and is valid.
I'm sure you wouldn't want to turn away people who want to use the site for it's main function over a couple of quid! |

There's no rule saying you can't talk about Rangers in the football and general forum?
Rangers, Football and Generals. Some might say that's an ideal scenario.
Dunno about Major debates or Private matters though. |

Whilst I appreciate it takes a lot of time and dedication to managing such sites, having done so myself in a different forum (games), most web hosts ask for no fee, unless you request the pretty graphic options, tie in database management options etc.
Having been a forum reader for 3 years now (and a QPR Fan since the days of Francis et al) I think the work done on this site and the posts made are the best of the bunch (Apart from the occasional grammatical errors pointed out, and the sometimes blinkered view of some others (I mention no names but they and we know who they are)) however I do believe that making a forum PTP (Pay to Post) will stop, me included, from posting.
That is fine if you wish to keep your database at a manageable level, reduce the forum to a clique base, and restrict any would be new posters be they good, bad or indifferent to expressing their views.
If you wish to grow as a group, keep up the good work and continue to be the sensible voice of QPR fans then asking for an immediate contribution is not the way to go.
It's only one posted opinion I realise, however ask yourself this would you subscribe to a service, if you may only use it occasionally, or settle for a free service that allowed you to use it as often as you wished.
I appreciate this may not be a very popular post, but I strongly suspect those that post against this will be those that already enjoy a free posting service.
It was, I'm sure, a very difficult decision to make, as I am well aware of the admin that goes on behind the scenes, the only advice I can give is share that workload, the strain of it will get too much.
Finally a big thank you to the people who do take the time and effort to run this site, but allow us who wish to post, post. |

Have you considered that putting up a minor obstruction serves as a deterrent to new fools (or old or existing fools) who really only want access in order to make mischief and/or feed their own egos (or to keep out those who've had a few sherberts etc). Any or all of which could diminish this message board. And let's be honest, there are one or two already well diminished boards (though the denizens do seem mostly unaware of their status).
IMO great thanks are due to DG for his efforts, his charity and his (mostly) sensible attitudes and approach |
