In response to this year’s Budget CAMRA is backing the e-petition calling for the Government to abandon the beer duty escalator in Budget 2013. We need the e-petition to reach 100,000 signatures to stand a chance of it leading to a Parliamentary debate and convincing Government to scrap the escalator. This will not be easy and we need your help.

Please take the time to sign this petition. I don't normally say 'please forward to your friends' but this time I will. Because it's important. The rate pubs are closing we won't have anything left to campaign for in a few years. www.camra.org.uk/saveyourpint

The blurb says:

Stop the beer duty escalator

Every year, the beer tax escalator increases the tax on beer by 2% above the rate of inflation, thus adding considerably more pressure on the British pub, the cornerstone of many of our communities. Removing the beer duty escalator at the next budget will help keep beer more affordable and go a long way to supporting the institution that is – the great British pub.

Going to the pub is a core British tradition and so is enjoying great beer. If you want to continue enjoying your fresh pint in your local pub then it’s crucial that you support our campaign to grind the beer duty tax escalator to a halt.

If we don’t show our support for the great British pub, we risk losing more pubs and more jobs within our local communities.

Support great beer in the great British pub and sign our e-petition now..... British Pubs Need You.

Stick the 2% on top of the hot takeaway VAT.

Cheaper beer and get (some) people eating proper food.

Easy.

I'd gladly pay £10 a pint if they scrapped tax on fuel and just had a straight VAT charge only.

In response to Sundays appalling officiating DSH is instigating an e-petition calling for the Government to investigate both referees and linesman. He needs the e-petition to reach 100,000 signatures to stand a chance of it leading to a Parliamentary debate and convincing the Government to sort out, once and for all, those w*nkers in the black. This will not be easy and he needs your help.

Please take the time to sign this petition. I don't normally say 'please' but this time I will. Because it's important. The rate with which referees and linesman are favouring the big clubs is getting ridiculous. www.DSH.org.uk/saveoursoccer

DSH says:

Stop the refereeing cock ups escalating

Every year, the referee cocking-up escalator increases by 2% above the rate of inflation, thus adding considerably more stress and anger on the English football fan, the cornerstone of many of our communities. Removing the dodgy referees and woefully inept linesman at the next cull of shite and biased officials will help keep football more enjoyable and honest and go a long way to supporting the institution that is – the English Premier League.

Going to watch a game of football is a core British tradition and so is enjoying warm shite beer at the game. If you want to continue enjoying your warm shite pint in your clubs ground having just watched 90 minutes of error free refereeing then it’s crucial that you support my campaign to grind these shocking "BIG 4" favouring cock ups, by those blind twats to a halt.

If we don’t show our support for the honesty and integrity of the great English game of football, we risk losing more hair and nights sleep and more jobs within our local communities.

Support honest football in the great English Premier League and sign my e-petition now..... English Football Needs You.

Admirable Don.

The title of this post had me thinking about my priority list. I have to say QPR and beer probably make my top 5. I shall have to think on this.

Thank you, gentlemen.

When a group of us started a sub-branch of CAMRA 20 years ago, there were 50 pubs in our bailiwick. 10 of those have now gone and we've had 2 new ones. A 16% loss and unless something is done, it's only going to get worse.

I dare say most areas are the same.

Does this reflect a new social shift where a wide range of cheap alcohol from supermarkets is seen as a better buy than over priced beer in a pub where the remaining smokers have the freedom to smoke in their own homes without the hassle of having to head to a designated area?
As Summer approaches I could see people arranging Barbeques amongst their colleagues and friends as a cheaper alternative to spending the day in the pub. I feel the rise in prices and the smoking ban have irrevocably altered the rôle of the pub as a focus for peoples social lives. Football crowds may be the last bastion of the traditionalists.
