In response to this year’s Budget CAMRA is backing the e-petition calling for the Government to abandon the beer duty escalator in Budget 2013. We need the e-petition to reach 100,000 signatures to stand a chance of it leading to a Parliamentary debate and convincing Government to scrap the escalator. This will not be easy and we need your help.

Please take the time to sign this petition. I don't normally say 'please forward to your friends' but this time I will. Because it's important. The rate pubs are closing we won't have anything left to campaign for in a few years. www.camra.org.uk/saveyourpint

Stop the beer duty escalator

Every year, the beer tax escalator increases the tax on beer by 2% above the rate of inflation, thus adding considerably more pressure on the British pub, the cornerstone of many of our communities. Removing the beer duty escalator at the next budget will help keep beer more affordable and go a long way to supporting the institution that is – the great British pub.

Going to the pub is a core British tradition and so is enjoying great beer. If you want to continue enjoying your fresh pint in your local pub then it’s crucial that you support our campaign to grind the beer duty tax escalator to a halt.

If we don’t show our support for the great British pub, we risk losing more pubs and more jobs within our local communities.

Stick the 2% on top of the hot takeaway VAT.

Cheaper beer and get (some) people eating proper food.

Easy.

I'd gladly pay £10 a pint if they scrapped tax on fuel and just had a straight VAT charge only.

The title of this post had me thinking about my priority list. I have to say QPR and beer probably make my top 5. I shall have to think on this.

When a group of us started a sub-branch of CAMRA 20 years ago, there were 50 pubs in our bailiwick. 10 of those have now gone and we've had 2 new ones. A 16% loss and unless something is done, it's only going to get worse.

I dare say most areas are the same.
