I think immigrants should make an effort to learn the language of their adopted country.

Many of my customers who were immigrants, have been here up to 20 years and they still can not place an order. Seems they just always work to support their big families and nothing else. I'm talking about the older generation of Indian/Asian immigrants.

That's so crazily old-fashioned.

Have they learned nothing from the native Brits about the benefits system.

Yes Don agree - when my father left Italy to live in England in 1952 he learn't the English language and to read as well.Helped him enormously obviously.Big Italian community came over to Kettering,Northants at that time.Returned to Italy in 1992 after retiring here, now 84 and still speaking English when we go over to visit him.Loved it over here bar the weather( the big reason he went back in the end)!!

Think we would all agree with that Don, but it would be interesting to find some figures on how many people in the UK speak little or no English.

I was told once by a young Muslim lady that there was no such thing as a Muslim country. They were all dictatorships and didn't represent Islam. After this she went a bit mental. I don't think she has blown up yet.
