QPR V Coventry

Post by ZENITH R » Fri Apr 02, 2021 1:53 pm

No surprise Seny on the bench after his travels to Africa. Fingers crossed Joe Lumley has a good game.

Todd Kane also on the bench ... a word to the wise - keep your thoughts to yourself, and don't criticise your colleagues on social media.

Team:

Lumley, Dickie, Cameron, Barbet, Kakay, Field, Johansen, Wallace, Willock, Chair & Austin

Bench:

Kane, Dykes, Bettache, Bonne, Ball, Thomas, Adomah, Kelman & Dieng

Excellent 1st half performance, Coventry a poor side but this is better than expected.

I want some of whatever Lee Wallace has been having the last couple of months. Who knew he was capable of performances like this? He's proved a lot of people wrong (myself included). Well done Lee.

Yes, he's our most improved player. Very comfortable for us first half, I hope we can get a few more goals to stamp the first half form.

If Mr Chair had passed on a couple of occasions rather than shoot then it likely would have been three. Great team performance though, pressing, movement and passing.

I missed the first half as the time difference to the UK has changed from 2 hours to 1.

Good win. Now solidly in the top half of the table.

My assessment of the game as follows:

Lumley - Solid if unspectacular display.
Dickie - Usual 9 out of 10 performance, surely Premiership bound.
Cameron - Did what he had to do against a toothless attack
Barbet - Again a comfortable afternoon for him.
Kakay - Did very well today. Really is a toss up between him and Kane.
Field - Very effective without being spectacular.
Johansen - That was such a polished performance if I were Fulham I'd recall him.
Wallace - His stratospheric improvement continued today.
Willock - Another good game from him as he flagged near the end.
Chair - My MOTM and my fav player at HQ now.
Austin - A frustrating day for Charlie, missed a couple of good chances.

Substitutes:
Ball - Not really time to do much.
Kelman - I'd like to see more of this lad, perhaps could have come on earlier.
Thomas - Ran around a lot and showed good movement.
Adomah - A good shot near the end, like most he did OK.
Dykes - Not enough time to do much, but I'm not a fan of his anyway.

Today seemed like a blueprint of a serious playoff push next season, but lots of
issues to iron out with loanees and assessments of present staff.

Arguably our best performance of the season. I particularly liked the pace of our passing which was often first touch and precise.

This season we've usually been better after a break in regular proceedings which suggests Warburton's coaching makes a genuine difference.

I would agree. Hard to measure as Coventry were so poor but that first 25 minutes was at a hell of a pace. I have complained a bit this season about how ponderous we look in possession but that was exactly what I wanted to see today. As you said, lots of first touch passing, always looking to move forward but able to move backwards when it was needed. What I was most impressed with was how snappy we were with the challenges and how quickly we pressed to win back possession, although Coventry again really helped with that.

I'd be interested to hear what those calling for Warburton's head in December think now. Given the players we lost from last year I think we really are doing very well now. I think we're currently 3rd in the form table for the whole of 2021.

I think you're right:

After the year-end draw at Norwich, the form has been very good.
The return of Charlie (and presence of Johansen) was a big factor.
Warburton deserves a lot of praise too.
