Tom Caroll wants to play for us again ...

Post by nic » Thu Sep 03, 2020 6:17 am

But would we want him?

28 and released by Swansea.

We need to strengthen the midfield but I would have thought we would want players with more physical presence as we already have Chair ..

Was listed as trialist against Arsenal. My feeling is Ramsey and possibly Ferdninand rate him (they will know him from Spurs) but MW not convinced. Hence the trial.
Personally I am neither particularly excited by the prospect, nor inclined to discount the chances of it working out. It's all very Meh.

I don't think anyone's going to be enthusistic about LTC playing for us again. However, if he was signed, he would fit well with Warburton's possession and pass style and he'd potentially enable Amos being used further forward which Warburton has tried out several times. Not entriely sure that works.

I'd imagine a loan for Bettache would then be considered which would no doubt help his development better than sitting on the bench. If so, maybe a half season loan would be good - I was looking forward to seeing him play for us this season.

Isn't he off playing for Barcelona? Sherwood certainly thought that's where he'd be playing.

He was too weak when he played for us but I remember a purple patch he had in the PL when he was on fire.

I’d be pleased to see him back, especially in a Warburton team where the emphasis is on playing possession football.

Dunno what’s gone wrong at Swansea for him tho

I hope we don't sign him. I think he would just perpetuate our obsession with possession which was creeping in after lockdown when we went games with more possession but without having a shot on goal. I would much prefer us to sign another no. 10 to share the burden with Chair because I don't think Chair can be expected to do it over the course of what is going to be a frenetic season.

I mean, he's a decent player on a free if his wages are in-line with the rest of the squad. I wouldn't pay a fee for him and if we don't have anyone else lined up or any youngsters on the verge of breaking through, then there could be worse signings.

My memory of him is that he was a very accurate passer but somewhat static and with no pace at all. He'd be ok I think.

I’m really not keen on this signing. One of the worse number 10’s we’ve had over recent years.

As we know, he was very highly thought of at Spurs, but I saw very little from him in a QPR shirt, and it didn’t come as any great shock to see Swansea release him a few months back - and no club has come in for him since.

Much like I think of Amos (at the moment), he’s just too light-weight to have any real influence in this league.

I think the word that springs from this post is "anonymous" which isn't a good sign

in Warburton we trust.

One thing we do know, if signed, he'll play a blinder versus Swansea which has to have some value

We are offering him a contract and hope to have him registered in time to play tomorrow.

A one year deal, which is sensible enough. He does seem as if he would fit the way MW likes to play, but as others have said, a bit lightweight and has played very little football in the last two seasons. I liked his attitude when he was here initially. Always looking for the ball, even when he wasn't playing particularly well and had the crowd on his back.

A decent and not especially expensive option, hopefully.

With the season compressed as it is and injuries inevitably sideline a few players, we may well look back on this as a wise move.
