QPR - the banter years

Post by KildarePete » Mon Aug 12, 2019 3:21 pm

An Irish sport website posted a wry piece on QPR over the weekend

https://www.balls.ie/football/balls-rem ... era-415469

Everyone on here is familiar with the details but it still makes one shake the head at some of the antics.
  • Adel getting the bus home from Craven Cottage fixture where QPR got hammered 6-0
  • Cisse's impressive record in the 2011/2012 season: Eight Games (6 goals and 2 red cards) - he either scored or was sent off in each game
  • Shawn Wright-Phillips spent four seasons with us and only scored one goal (albeit against Chelsea)
An era of madness - hopefully QPR are settling down and righting the ship

Joey Barton claiming he was only fighting at Man City because Clint Hill told him to. Along with his interview in "French"
BA-E demonstrating the most sublime take down and nutmeg in a match, a few games before having a face to face fight with Charlie Austin shortly after. Keiron Dyer only making 4-5 appearances in his time with us but everyone was MOTM performance. Chris Samba knocking Grant Holt about on his debut and doing Jack Schitt after that before being sold on. Jose Bosingwa locking himself in the dressing room at the training ground because Harry wouldn't tell him why he had been dropped. Bobby Zamora claiming he would rather be fishing than playing football because of all the shenanigans in the dressing room during matches.
There must be many more that others can remember but those were just the first ones off the top of my head.
It's not the despair that will kill you, it's the hope.

A lot of players were signed who didn't appear that pushed to play football - BAE was another one who said that football was just a job for him and that he did it for the money. No wonder the dressing room atmosphere was toxic in those days.

There’s never a dull moment at QPR, but those were exceptional times even by our standards.

Adel asking to be subbed off at Hull in January 2011....

I think he was having his head turned by "advisors" telling him that ManUre, Real and the likes wanted to sign him during that transfer window....

Thankfully Colin convinced him he had to prove himself over a full season to get his "dream move"....

Even then it didn't happen as Flav went over to conduct negotiations with PSG and realised we we weren't going to make much of a profit thanks to Spuds sell on clause...(40% I think).
2019/2020.... Keep Calm, no matter the season, we'll follow our team.....

Only Spurs could get away with putting a 40% sell on clause in & only we would accept it.

Wouldn’t have minded 40% sell on clause when we sold sterling to Liverpool.

Agreed.

Although didn’t we pay little over £1m for him? Ridiculous amount, even back then.

I have it in my head that the fee for Adel was £640k. An odd number but deep in the recesses, I seem to remember reading it.

The same Spurs that agreed a 20% sell on clause when they signed Bale from Saints, only for Saints a year later (who were skint) asked to wave the sell on clause in return for 1.5m..

Roll on 5yrs & Spurs sold Bale to Real Madrid for 86m.

Saints lost out on a fortune & once again levy laughed all the way to the bank.
