BFG # 1

Post by Danish Ranger » Tue May 28, 2019 5:03 am

Congratulations to Sebastian Polter, who has been promoted to the Bundesliga with his team Union Berlin

After drawing 2-2 away at Stuttgart, Union Berlin managed a goalless draw at home. They will play in the Bundesliga for the first time in their history.

I have fond memories of BFG # 1. After a tough start to life in the Championship, he became a decent striker and stood out as a likeable champ

Absolutely delighted for him.

I have nothing but fond memories of Polter. He’s one of the few players that genuinely improved over time with us. Deserves his chance in the German top flight.

And we looked a better side than them in pre season. What happened.

Pleased for him. Always seemed a genuine bloke and committed player.

There's an article on Union's promotion here :

From the away game at Birmingham where he appeared to manage the feat of not being near any ball aimed towards him, and commenting to Wrinkly or DW that he must be the worst forward we have ever had, to enjoying watching him play and a bit sad that he left was quite a transformation. Good luck to him and I would always cheer him if he turned up at Loftus Road; one of the minor legends LOL.

He didn't do enough to be put in the legend category but certainly a likeable cult figure at Loftus Road! aniclap

Good on the ball with his second touch... whenever he got one.

The problem was his first touch which was so bad the ball would most often bounce off him and go to someone else a few yards away.

I was sad to see him leave though as I thought he was improving and always had a good work ethic.
This time we'll get it right - just believe!

as outlined here, top, top bloke as with little talent he had he made up for in effort and enthusiasm, and improved his talent markedly.

That's all we ask for from any player but from one moving from abroad to join us it was a top effort.

well remember the abuse we'd generally all give him for being unable to control a ball etc but bit by bit he improved to become a real handful

well remember too a game where he headed the corner against us away, collected the ball just inside the half-way line, passed it out again ran another 50 yards to head it in !!

wonderful goal which he wouldn't have done for us when he first joined us, he got his chance and he took it. Well done him, fond memories.

if only they were all like him.... ...you reading this Mr Boswinga?

Good observation Stan, and also a reminder that it often pays dividends to let new/young players make mistakes without dropping them!
