Thought we were playing today ...

Post by Systemsguy » Sat Jan 05, 2019 1:05 pm

Not interested in going this weekend and shows how much I care about the oldest football competition these days.... Thank you TV for ruining the magic....

Gosh I remember the excitement of cup final day in the 70s and early 80s with ITV on one finalist bus and BBC on the other as they made there way to the old stadium for a 3pm kickoff....

The spectacle, the glamour.... I really miss those heady days....
2018/2019.... Keep Calm, no matter the season, we'll follow our team.....

Being, er, somewhat older I remember tuning in to the BBC really early in the day on our black and white 11inch TV to watch both teams' progression through the rounds to reach Wembley. Cup final day was really special then. The streets were deserted during the game as so many people stayed home to watch it.
Now it's just a travesty - the competition that only the very smallest clubs have any regard for.
I used to take the golden coloured wrapping off of a Lucozade bottle and stick it over the TV screen so I could pretend we had colour. Tell young folks today......!

Yep, the days when the FA cup was the only live game you could watch in a year (unless the World Cup or Euros was on). I think that's why us older (40+) folk remember it so fondly and why we would be glued to the TV all day.

That for me was what it was, the chance to watch a whole 90 minutes uninterrupted, even England games were highlights on Sportsnight. We are getting very close to the Spanish model where every La Liga game is on TV over the weekend - guess this can work effectively in a large country where away support can be limited through distances much more often.

It's called life guys, it's called change.
Even before we were born there were customs:
Whitsun,
Hangings at Tyburn

That were universally observed and well attended by millions of people.
Get used to changing times.

Hangings eh...hmmmm, sometimes old customs should be made "popular" again. Now there's a thought! whistle

So simple to fix.

Just give the 4th Champions league spot to the winners or runners up.

Not quite so simple I doubt EUFA would accept a team from outside the Premier League.

I see Colin's Cardiff fell at the first hurdle.... Surprise that one....

Promotion chasing Norwich as well....

Just wondering who wants it less tomorrow, us or Leeds?

Change? I don't have a problem with that, it's the apathy that surrounds such a great trophy these days because of Money.....

Europa League for championship clubs?

QPR weren't allowed in the fairs cup in 68 I believe due to being in the lower tier of the league's.... Different ballgame now....
