A very well won and deserved point with a much more committed performance than Saturday's rather limp offering.

They can heart from that match and feel they can face up to any team in this division when they take the game to the opposition.

Some of the lads on “another site” saying the ref was awful. Should have sent off the Villa player for kicking Lumley in the face instead of a belated yellow card. And 11 minutes of stoppage time ?!?!
Kodjia should have been sent off for deliberately kicking Lumley in the face. The replays showed the intent quite clearly.

11 minutes extra was about right as Lumley's treatment took a very long time.

Apparently this Ref has had a lot of our games, and we have never lost under him ... so not someone who tends to favour any particular side.

May have just missed the intent in the collision, which was pretty fast.

Great away point. Nice to see Eze start again and score...a big shout out to the "experts" who know best...those who wanted him rested/dropped/benched!

This highlights the rediculous rule about the FA not being able to take action if the referee has seen the incident. Give him the benefit of the doubt and accept he missed the intent but now nothing can be done retrospectively.

14 mins of time added on in the end. Lumley is really starting to piss me off with his time wasting. It's not even subtle, so the ref isn't getting fooled by his nonsense.

For some reason, I found myself watching Lumley in the home match with Reading. He seems to take an age with all kicks and throws irrespective of the state of the game. Come to that, it seems to me that players in general take much longer over various deadball situations than was the case in the past.

In fairness, his genuine injury took an age to sort out, around 8 minutes I reckon from impact to restart. Add in another 6.5 minutes for 2 goals, 6 subs and 5 second-half bookings and I'm not sure it's fair to lay the blame on Lumley, it seemed the right amount?

Superb performance, big call outs for Freeman (as usual), Eze, Leistner.
Still need to rest some players and utilize the squad but that was as good
as I could have expected at Villa Park.

Well done the team.

Ouch ... that's got to hurt!

I assume he'll be rested for Leeds in the FA Cup.

A Villa knob's comment on the incident:-

The keeper took the slightest of flicks from Kodjia, there was next to nothing in it - it took seven minutes for the physios to ask him if he was alright and comb his eyebrows a few times - in so far as I could see, there was no blood. There really ought to be some sort of rule with players that if an injury can't be treated in five minutes an enforced substitution has to take place, other than in the case of the most serious injures (Neck, spinal etc). The actions of their physio who came back onto the field of play to treat a keeper who had started the process of taking the free kick were a disgrace and I'd like to see him fined.

It's a pity we can't post that picture on their fans' site. They were also saying our time wasting was the worst they've ever seen. I know some of our fans say well, we've had it done to us so we're getting our own back. Well, maybe, but I'm not at all comfortable with it.

The term Game Management conceals a mulitude of sins my son ! Feigning injury, time wasting, pressurising referees, simulation and whatever nefarious ideas are currently going around in managers' heads to win at all costs. It'll drive fans away in the end.
