Running for Stan

Post by Greyhound » Mon Oct 15, 2018 6:48 pm

I would really like to encourage fellow Hoops to get behind the wonderful Don Shanks as he sets about the NY Marathon to raise cash for the care of his pal, Stan Bowles. This has been a bit of a slow burner so far, with only £2k raised, but it is starting to build up. Whatever your views on the many issues relating to this, please give some consideration to lobbing a few quid in. I'm sure it will make a lot of difference to Shanksy to know that he had the support of a lot of fans, even if he doesn't hit his £50k target.

Good on Don - it must be heart-breaking for him, seeing his old mucker barely now even a shell. To state the obvious, I guess, what a truly tragic irony that all the marvellous memories some of us who grew up on QPR in the 1970s have now cruelly fallen through the holes in the Bowles brain!

Does anyone have an update on Stan's GoFundMe page and what the plan is? There's £54k in the coffers now, and, the last I read, he can hardly speak, cries a lot, and has forgotten his daughter's name (and probably his own), who can't leave him alone for more than a few minutes. When and how is the money going to be used? I think the private care home the family had in view costs £600 a week. Andria surely deserves a holiday and a professional carer at a minimum.

Three grand and a hundred supporters so far - hopefully this will continue to grow.

£600 a week for a private care home is really cheap. Double that is a more realistic figure.
