Smithies off to Cardiff

Post by Bevan » Mon Jun 25, 2018 6:51 pm

Huge rumours on twitter and on sky transfer centre that we have accepted a £4mil bid from Cardiff for smithies.

I feel in this market he is worth atleast double ...

I would be gutted to see him go

Cardiff have agreed a fee in the region of £4million with Queens Park Rangers for goalkeeper Alex Smithies. #cardiffcity #QPR

Nothing on official press channels yet although with his form you would expect bids for him at some point.

Issue I would have is fee level - £6m - £7m would seem more like it!

4 does seem a bit cheap, but we do have Ingram who is good enough for the first team and young Lumley coming through too.

Terrible news if true. Would be very worried if we go into the new season with Ingram or Lumley behind our currently remaining defenders.
Come on you Sooopa ........

Yes, his contract is to 2020. I would have thought £5m minimum

Four million pound bid accepted so we have to hope that another club or two comes in and pushes the price up.

Of course it's very disappointing to see Smithies leave but in the context of where the club is at the moment then in my opinion it's a good and much needed deal.

At £4m it's daylight robbery. I can't believe the club would accept such a paltry sum for possibly one of the best 'keepers outside the Prem or within it for that matter.

£4 million would, indeed, make him a bargain buy.
I see that our little-used, former keeper, Brian Murphy is there, too.
It's simple. Score more goals than they do.

Up on the Beeb now: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/44607474

Oh well. At least we had 3 excellent years out of him and make £2.5m.

It's time for Ingram and Lumley now.

WHAM just paid £7,000,000 for Fabianski who is 5 years older than Smithies.

Fabianski has played 180 league games in the Premiership
Smithies has played 351 league games - none in the Premiership.

It's a risk for Cardiff - but I reckon they need him more than we need £4 million. We should play hard ball and hang out for at least another million maybe two.

It's very disappointing if true, I wonder what the black and white of his contract with us says. Maybe some sort of get-out clause if a bid of over such and such comes in.

Absolutely. We have to sell players cheaply because we let their contracts run down and now we sell players cheaply when still under contract. What is wrong with this club we seem to be the only ones that cannot negotiate decent fees for our players. Of course the caveat is if this is all true.
