Luke Young

Post by old pauline » Sat Jun 23, 2018 1:57 pm

Saw him this morning at the Wimbledon Common Park Run. He is a nice guy and in good shape. He said sorry about his time at QPR and said it wasn't easy at the time when we were in such a mess. Next time I see him up there I am going to ask him to play for my Sunday morning team

Always liked him and thought he cared.

Although I just checked the parkrun results and not sure I agree that 27:48 over 5k is in good shape for someone who was a professional athlete! Sounds like he has not kept up his fitness.

He only played around 100 games in the last six years for Villa, and (even less often) for us. 'Blighted by injury' would seem to be the operative phrase. A bit like cheery chops 'Arry.

Ha ha. Well spotted. What about my 24.15 ? Not too shoddy for a 53 year old. I wonder if I'd run Gareth Southgate close over 10k ??

Luke Young was with two children under the age of 11 so he would have had to stay with them over the 5k

Good player. Always gave his all. Very often it's this type of player that is blighted by injury because they've been prepared to get stuck in. Unlike say, Beckham who was the greatest bottler of all time and rarely got hurt.

Not too shoddy at all! You are in far better shape than him if he didn't run with his kids!!

Hmmm, I did 28 17 on a harder course on Saturday and I am a fairly fit 68 year old; so Luke must have gone slow with his kids, surely??

I've just run... out of buscits.

Agree about Luke Young, the opposite of the Hughes mercenaries, decent Pro and human being.

Goodness me, I hope you're okay. Do you need someone to send emergency hobnobs?

Speaking of Parkruns, I'll be in London over the weekend and thinking of doing the Wormwood Scrubs Parkrun.

Does anyone have any experience of it? Are there better options.

I don't live round that way so not done any parkruns in West London.

Which makes me think we should all turn up to one before a lunchtime kick off (do we still have them?) in our QPR shirts. Then jog to the ground for the warm down.

There is a QPR runners page on Strava.
