Talksport saying Freeman having a medical at Blackburn, 4.5m
If true then that is 50% more than the original fee being touted which was already a 100% increase in value. That won't be a pleasant experience for the QPR bashers will it? I suppose they will have to resort to whining that he was our best player last year and we shouldn't have let him go blah, blah, blah.
Not sure about your smoke and mirrors theory Mike, always worth a try and bluff of course but I think most clubs are aware of our Profitability and Sustainability Rules situation.

I don't often bash the club but I would in this case because if Freeman leaves then our chances of relegation are greatly increased in my opinion. If Freeman is sold to me there would be a hint of panic about that sale to get some cash in. After years of negotiation The Football League will know our Financial situation and accounts as well as we do and will therefore know the immense impact of their Profitability and Sustainability Rules on our club. I think there has to be some flexibility at some point and further negotiation rather than just wave the white flag and sell your best player to a Championship rival. If true 4.5 million is a good price for Luke but for me, in this transfer window, you don't sell at any price.

In what way are those rules different for QPR, as compared with every other club in the division ?

We have a transfer embargo and fine as a result of an historic breach, but that has nothing to do with the current rules.

We also still have £10M of parachute money that the majority of clubs don't have the luxury of.

Ux, you have to consider the differences of your club, stadium and training facility being based in Central London or Blackburn.

That would be less of a whine and more of a statement of fact really. I don't think you can characterize anyone who's unhappy at the idea of Freeman going to Blackburn as "QPR bashers". They're a similar sized or arguably smaller club than us, and potential relegation rivals. Selling him with the window about to close and knowing we have a transfer embargo in January would be genuinely worrying, I think.

Well there's not much anyone can do about the geography. Yes, London is more expensive, but our ticket prices are proportionately higher, and we're a more attractive proposition for players and advertisers by virtue of being in the capital. Brentford have to cope with it, and seem to be managing OK.

London is way way way more expensive, rent, rates, insurance, salaries and ticket prices are a drop in the ocean. Brentford are going through a purple patch at the moment, it won't last, not much anyone can do about that.

...so it looks like every player we are linked to....ends somewhere else....has it to do with the FFP thing...?
We are not an attractive location at the moment...?
100% due to FFP
Plus we pay low wages and have a v low transfer budget. If you were a player Ipswich look a better bet than us.
It is not a case of FFP plus we pay low wages etc it is a case of FFP dictates that we can only pay low wages

Do you think Ipswich are paying higher wages than QPR ? I doubt it personally. They also sold Waghorn to pay for the players they've brought in.

We sold Smithies and haven't spent a penny yet. There's more to this than FFP.

I really don’t think that there is.

Parachute payments stop next season, and no doubt we will be running at a huge loss for that year of accounts. This will be the way it is for the foreseeable future IMO.

I shall remind you of Don Gibbons excellent post from the 4th when I suggested that behind the scenes we were still operating as a club in the Premier League.

At the recent friendly fixture at AFC Wimbledon, I counted:

* 18 QPR players (fair enough)
* 10 non-playing staff around the bench
* 6 non-playing staff in the elevated camera gantry
* 1 luxury coach & driver (who spent 4 hours in the car park)

So a grand total of 35 (support) staff for a friendly.

The finance data bear out the excesses. In the last reported Financial year, the club had gate receipts of £5.2million & administration expenses of £10.7million. So even before paying any of the players, the club has a massive black hole.

If true Luke is going to be a busy boy. Medical at Blackburn, medical at Middlesborough, well over 100 miles between the two. Maybe the Director of Football can authorise a helicopter. :D
