Aston Villa

We’ll see you all next year.
Saturday 9th November 1968: QPR V Burnley in the First Division - I saw the Hoops for the first time and my obsession began!

Good people our standing in the West London pecking order has now been firmly cemented.

Scum
Fulham
Brentford
QPR

And it's only gonna get harder with those Cottage clowns now pocketing £160M

I'm certainly optimistic though.

Only one of those clubs is actually in West London. QPR will ALWAYS be the pride of West London.

...well..only two seasons ago they came to LR towards the end of it, playing to avoid relegation - and they won.
So I am wondering how and what they did to improve so fast, from struggling to stay up into going to the Prem.
May be the same path that Cardiff and Wolves used....

The answer is .... they had managers who looked at their players, and played them in the right positions, kept the tactics simple - played to their strengths, and didn't ask them to multi-task (as in asking full backs to be wing backs and take on an additional attacking role.) It's not rocket science.

How has Neil Warnock been so successful in getting teams promoted? Simply by doing those things above, with a bit of decent man management and passion thrown in.

Football is a simple game - keep it simple and don't over complicate things.

Credit where credits due, they put together a fantastic run and I don't think many would have expected them to go up.

Christmas onwards they've hardly put a foot wrong. But they have both the Sessegnon brothers and Mitrovic who as I recall is on loan ex Newcastle?

Fact is Ryan S is wanted by Spuds and Mitrovic probably has to go back or a deal be done. Their manager and owners are a bit left field I guess but the core of that team as has been mentioned was struggling 2 seasons ago.

Pleased for them, but it just shows your never far from 3 or 4 additions to making a solid unit capable of great things. Villa on the other hand... :D

Of the team that won the play-off final yesterday, only Cairney and Fredericks remain from the one that won at LR two seasons ago. In other words, they got a very good manager in and he completely revamped the squad. Having a board that's still prepared to spend money helps too.

Sadly it's unlikely to be as easy as just playing people in their "right" positions or adding 3 or 4 players.

They made a progressive managerial appointment - unlike QPR
They stuck with their manager for more than two seasons- unlike QPR
