Big Scary James Collins

Post by Bevan » Sun May 20, 2018 7:22 am

After the success of Dunne, Hill, Nelson etc

James Collins has just been released after 11 years by West Ham, could his experience be great for our back line next season?

I thought the same thing. He would be a good, solid signing if his wage demands were low enough for next season.

Sure could, and no need to move house......you know it makes sense......

it'll be another world - if you think Rangers can be a little odd sometimes, getting away from WH and their horrible management / board would be a breath of fresh air.

Hmmm, he's 34 and only played 13 games last season. He's a tad over the hill even for the Championship I think.

Was only selected 13 times which doesn't mean he wasn't fit enough.

Would be a great signing for us.

Ffs if I’m gonna be reading garbage like this all summer I better delete this forum off my phone for 3 months.

We need legs at the back, the championship is twice a week pace pace pace, he would get murdered by quick sharp strikers it would be Rio all over again.

I thought we had got past the period of signing has beens that want one more pay day before the scrap heap.

I’m all for adding a bit of experience to a young squad but James Collins at Centre back would be suicide.

So far we’ve got some on here that want crouch upfront & now Collins at the back, who next? How about Gareth Barry in midfield don’t think he’s hit 40 yet.

We’ve got a donkey at the back in Lynch & a slow coach in Baptiste we don’t need another one.

Great idea. Please do

I think Collins would be an excellent signing but don't want to pay over the odds for him. I imagine he's looking for one last pay day and will get more elsewhere

Who would YOU suggest we get in at centre back then? You've slagged off the only two we have at the club so I guess you must be thinking we need to sign a couple?

It's the Championship so the quality of strikers is not up to Aguero/Vardy/Kane standards: I think Collins would cope.

So Robinson doesn’t play CB then?

I didn’t slag off Baptiste I advised all the haters on here when we signed him that he’s a good solid pro but lacks pace these days, I like him but he’s gonna get found out more often than not in a foot race.

Lynch is a donkey a useless lump!

I’d go for a young hungry league1 CB, Collins is over the hill he’d get torn apart.

Pay me to scout and I find you a couple of CB’s from the lower leagues, I’d look further than James Collins for Christ’s sake.

Very little chance of Robinson staying (I did forget Hall though!) I don't mind Baptiste for cover but he's a class below Collins.

Yeah signing quality centre backs from the league below would be nice: still say that we could do with a Hill/Dunne/Nelsen figure in the side though for the experience.

Just always rings alarm bells with me when I hear ex international wrong side of 30 looking for one last meal ticket, when I see how honest and exciting some of youngsters are looking I’d rather go down that route problem being all our kids seem to be attackers.

I could be wrong Collins could do well but serious lack of pace would concern me tbh.

I think defence is our area of concern, if fully fit & playing four at the back I suppose you would say bids Robinson hall Darnell, but two of those are sick notes & one has struggled to hold down a first team birth.

Hopefully shteve has sumfin up his sleve.

Tbh, i haven't seen the bloke play for ages, my gut feel is closer to 'lala's. Hill was quite a bit younger when he joined. Nelsen and Dunne a bit closer. All worked out much better than i expected but they were signed with short-term goals in mind.

Where we are now, I'd rather see us look to youth or if we're really short and worried about relegation, the loan market. Personally that feels like it makes more sense than players right at the ends of the careers.
