Worrying that all squads succumbed to Palace.
Points to a niggling worry for me about the state of recruitment and scouting @ HQ

Not up to scratch me thinks.

Why ? Palace are a Premier League club, and have always had a good reputation for bringing through their own players.
Are headphones getting bigger, or are idiots getting smaller ?

You're telepathic!
Maybe we can agree that Smyth from your neck of the woods looks the brightest prospect at the club.

If he starts under-performing on a consistent basis I will criticize, you're right.
You really are perceptive.

I find your criticism of the recruitment and scouting at odds with the evidence. For the first time in years, we're seeing signs of bringing players through from our youth set-up (Eze, Furlong and getting players in cheaply who are staring to perform (Freeman, Scowen, Smyth) and will have re-sale value. I think most of us signed up for that after the disastrous boom and bust. If you talk to any coach of academies and reserve teams, the ultimate goal is not winning youth team cups, reserve team leagues (although nice to have and maybe a good indicator, but in producing players capable of succeeding at 1st team level.
This was never going to be a quick fix, but for me the signs are there that we are starting to do the right things
