Alex Baptiste

Post by Devonranger » Mon Aug 07, 2017 11:23 am

Confirmed on a free transfer - two year deal.

Potentially good business - Wests had good comments to say about this player - bit of experience to add to the ranks.

Welcome Alex!

Almost a clone of Chief :-)

Not much build up to that transfer and done and dusted without any fuss. Fair play to the club.

Tough one to get excited about.

Apparently he can play anywhere across the back four, although at 5' 11", he's not especially tall for a central defender. I suppose that's less of an issue if we play 3 centre-backs. Disappointing if it means Furlong is pushed further out of the mix at right back.

He's a "character" though woohoo

Neither was Paul Parker and look how that turned out.

I see he shares the same script writer as just about every player we sign: "QPR is a massive club...I will give it my all...Loftus Road... it’s so tight and the crowd are on top of you"

Anyway, don't mind me Alex. Welcome to QPR. I hope you do really well.

We've signed experienced steady defenders in recent years who have turned out great, i.e. Nelsen, Hill and Dunne, so let's hope Alex is equally handy.
Come on you Sooopa ........

Absolutely agree with this.... Remember the slating the three got when they came here... Worked before with Ollie and only a two year contract... Seems a decent squad signing

Welcome Alex...
2017/2018.... Keep Calm, no matter the season, we'll follow our team.....

I thought Baptiste was the new James Perch. If he's the new Paul Parker, I'll be much happier.

He's still going to pick up a salary. We've got plenty of cover across the back, it's also a departure from our strategy. I'm also concerned as to what the intention for him is? I wouldn't want him replacing anyone who started on Saturday other than possibly Perch. When we have a fit 3rd centre half i'd like to see Chief move over to the right side of the 3.

I really can't see the point in this one.

It's simple. Score more goals than they do.

Just looked at where he was played at Preston last season. It seems at times he was on the left of a back 3 and at other times the right CB in a back 4. I suspect he's come in instead of Hoban and will compete for Lynch's position.

For what it's worth, I read elsewhere Preston fans loved him.
