Match Thread: Reading v Queens Park Rangers FC

Post by Rbee » Fri Jul 07, 2017 1:44 pm

Slightly unusual as we play Reading first game of the season but....

READING FC kick-off their pre-season campaign with a double header against Queens Park Rangers tomorrow.

Jaap Stam will run the rule over his players for the first time this summer in back-to-back matches against Ian Holloway's Rangers.

Both games take place behind closed doors at Reading's Hogwood Park training ground, with the first kicking off at midday and the second at 3pm.

But Royals fans will have to wait a little longer to catch a glimpse of their team as no spectators are allowed.

It is thought Stam will field a mixture of first team and Under 23 players for the clashes against QPR, whom Reading also take on at Loftus Road in their Championship opener on Saturday, August 5 (3pm ko).

New signing Josh Scowen will not be involved in either of QPR’s friendlies against Reading this weekend.

Two behind-closed-doors friendlies have been arranged against the Royals, who will be Rangers’ first opponents of the new season.

Midfielder Scowen recently completed a move to Loftus Road when his Barnsley contract expired so was not part of the Rangers squad which spent time at a training camp in Portugal.

He is therefore still building up his fitness and is not yet being considered for selection.

Fifteen minutes in to the second half of the first game and Reading lead 2-1.

Washington from the penalty spot for us.

First game over, 2-1 to Reading. Matt Smith went close near the end with a header over the bar.

No, but Reading FC were updating with Tweets.

They haven't bothered with the second game so I presume it's a match for the youth.

QPR had a difficult day as both of their sides were beaten by Reading in two behind closed doors friendlies.

Rangers boss Ian Holloway split his teams, as did Royals counterpart Jaap Stam, but it was the Berkshire side who started quicker in both games.

In the QPR 'A' game, Roy Beerens and Ryan East gave Reading a 2-0 lead early in the contest and, while Conor Washington pulled a goal back, it was not enough for Hoops.

Adi Popa gave Reading the lead in game two before 16-year-old Danny Loader grabbed a perfect hat-trick to put Reading in command.

The young forward bagged his fourth and Reading's fifth soon after the break before QPR found something to take home late on.

Reece Grego-Cox made it 5-1 before Charlie Owens struck a well-taken second to give the game a closer feel.

QPR 'A': Ingram, Furlong, Onuoha, Hamalainen (Phillips 74), Bidwell, Hall (Owens 74), Manning, Freeman, Washington, Smith, Eze (Chair 56).

Reading 'A': Legg, Blackett, Cooper, van den Berg, Moore, Frost, Quinn, East, Barrett, Beerens, Smith.

QPR 'B': Smithies, Kakay (Phillips 55), Perch, Lynch, Robinson (Williams 64), Cousins (Owens 74), Goss, Grego-Cox, Ngbakoto, Sylla (Prohouly 55), Scowen.

Reading 'B': Jaakkola, Gunter, Richards, Ilori, McShane, Kelly, Evans, Rinomhota, Popa, Clement, Loader.

No, as explained on the second post on this thread.

Never mind that though. Two defeats already, and the season doesn't even start for 4 weeks. Heads must roll.
