I was given this sad news this morning by my son Matt - Big John was a truly nice guy who made the world a better place with his big smile and personality.

We first made contact when Matt was cycling round the world and I put out a call asking if anyone could help by giving him a bed as he passed through and John of course responded and they had a good time together and remained in contact.

I met John when we went to California and he took us to his local hangout for car enthusiasts - he was extremely proud of the car he had been restoring!

When he came over for "the" Leeds game I took him out for a day to see the English countryside and he was so pleased when we found a small motor museum in the chocolate box town that is Bourton-On-The-Water.

RIP to the man who will always be Big John in California.
This time we'll get it right - just believe!

That's a shame, we had a nice little pm chat after he noticed my slightly obscure avatar. Seemed like a lovely guy, very sad news, RIP.

He sounds like a gent.

It's a whopping cliche, but it puts things in perspective when most of us are miserable about a football team underperforming.

RIP Big John.

This is very sad news indeed.

I didn't know him but, via this messageboard, I did post a parcel to him once (containing all the additional merch you get with your R's Membership). I didn't want it and he was delighted with it and we sent a few emails back and forth. He made reference to giving some of it to his neices & nephews so my condolences go out to his family. I feel for them.

RIP
