Player of the Year Event Cancelled

Post by Rbee » Mon Apr 10, 2017 3:33 pm

Call yourself fans??? :D

QPR have cancelled their player of the year dinner because so few tickets for the event have been sold.

Many supporters wanted the previously annual dinner to be reintroduced but were put off by the price of tickets.

“We are naturally disappointed that we’ve had to cancel the event,” Rangers chief executive Lee Hoos told the club’s website.

“I have spoken to a lot of fans over the last 18 months about their desire for the event to return, but it seems the price point is still an issue and therefore we’ve been left with little option but to cancel the event.”

So I take it they didn't come up with another gimmick like the £67 shirt.

Let's say erm.. Ah I've got it.. how about the dinner ticket costs a quid for every point we accumulate this season, so it should be roughly £50 a head.

How about that Hoos!

Unfortunately they based the pricing on how many points we expect to accumulate next season. I think 119 may be a little optimistic, even if Sean Goss starts every game.

Is that how much the tickets were? I'm not surprised that so few were reserved. People aren't made of money. When you think of how much it costs to follow the club these days - high ticket prices, desperately high transport costs, the price of a pint not far off a fiver, well.

Are there any players you'd want to chat with? Assuming they haven't cleared off to a nightclub within five minutes of the awards finishing

This is basically a warning of exactly what will probably happen for the Bowles benefit match. Fans clamour for an event, club give in, no one turns up.

Which is probably why they canceled it before. What are the club to do, subsidise it? I feel sorry for Hoos, being our CEO is like being a parent to a load of man-children half the time.

Were the fans that were "clamouring" for the event aware of the cost I wonder.

I haven't really followed this much (given my proximity to London), but tickets only went on Sale last week and they've been cancelled already? A bit premature innit?

No idea, you'd expect something like this to cost around that amount. You make a good point though, the club would have done well to actually follow up with fans and see if they were willing to pay it.

Just give the award to Smithies on the pitch after the last home game & put this dull uninspiring stagnant season behind us.

As for £119 pp maybe if jimmy floyd was hosting but then again he wants about 50k just for a speech these days.

Lala, if someone offered you 50k for a speech would you take it?

Agreed though, give it to Smithies now

Not to the detriment of my employer.

R.e Smithies glad we agree.

My reaction when first learning of the cost ( i.e a couple of hours ago on here ), was strictly knee-jerk without knowing what is provided. I imagine a hospitality company handles it, in which case I guess the figure quoted may the norm. I think only our well-heeled supporters would be in a postion to avail themselves of the event. Still, it's all off now.
