Matt Smith signing confirmed

Post by Rbee » Tue Jan 31, 2017 2:35 pm

On the offish.

Yet another three-and-a-half-year deal. The club must be confident with their signings.

Yep, the contracts seem to be lengthening again, which is slightly worrying.

Welcome, Matt.

I'm not worried about the contracts lengths. All of our signings in the last 2 seasons have resale value, which is evident in this transfer window. No more crocked 32 year olds joining us on £40,000 a week.

I admit to struggling to be positive about this one, but I've moaned enough about others negativity so... welcome big man!

Reports suggest he cost £500k, and wages will be sensible so if that's the case presumably he would be easier to offload at a later date than the ones we've had problems with who were on stupid wages.

Bit cheaper than the last lump of a striker we brought from Fulham, let's hope he's as good on the field.

Where does this leave the 2.5m Sylla?

On the bench?

Smith's fee has been reported as an initial £500k rising to £1m.

Sylla's fee was £1.75m.

Players get injured/suspended etc.

I guess it depends on your source regarding transfer fees these days, I'm sure you can find atleast three different reported fee's for Sylla without trying.

3.5 years seems a a bit punchy. This whole deal is unlike the recent strategy so i assume Holloway has really pushed for him to come in. I hope Sylla isn't immediately cast aside.

A Fulham supporting mate is delighted to be shot of him. But let's hope he's got something to offer.

Yeah, I thought 3.5 seemed a bit excessive too - especially for someone who hasn't had a great scoring record - except in league 1.

A Fulham fan I know said the following, "honest, but immobile - poor touch and not that good with his head". Let's hope they're wrong. Either way 3.5 seems too long, particularly given his age and recent record. I hope that the recent strategy isn't going to go out the window with a change of manager.

Presumably the guy still had a contract of some kind at Fulham?

3 and a half years is hardly unreasonable. Pay as you play is hardly likely to entice many half decent players.

Change Fulham for QPR and you could be describing the BFG, immobile would be a bit harsh on Polter though as he showed occasional flashes of speed. :D
It's not the despair that will kill you, it's the hope.
