Just got back ...

Post by ZENITH R » Sat Jan 13, 2018 6:22 pm

My feet are like blocks of ice! it was very cold today.

Any QPR victory is good, but an away win with our record on the road was FANTASTIC!

So, I think we were good value for the win, we played well and the two goals in the second half were very well taken. Burton though are a poor side - no surprises considering their size and income, they are punching well above their weight as the saying goes.

Of course, the significance of the bottom four losing as we won is of far more importance, and that has added to my smile this evening.

To the game ...

We had the better of the first half and I thought were justified in taking the lead. We scored at the far end, so I couldn't see clearly (no big screen at Burton for replays). I believe it was a header from Oteh. He had a very good game, he has lots of pace and made a nuisance of himself right up until he was subbed on about 70 minutes. It was nearly a dream start for him as he put one just over the bar in the first minute!

So, 0-1 to the R's - we were still celebrating, and I was in mid text to my mate Rod giving him the details, when Dyer picked the ball up in the 6 yard box, ran across the goal and slotted into the corner! 1-1! Apparently there were 2 minutes between the goals, but it seemed like less. Dyer seems to make a habit of scoring against us.

Half time, and I felt a little flat. We should have gone in comfortably 2 goals up (but maybe that was just me).

The second half started with a flurry of Burton corners but they didn't come to anything. We were still the more threatening, but how many times have we been caught in those circumstances? Washington was caught offside a few times running on to through balls. It was hard to say from where I was stood (Burton's ground if you haven't been has terracing on three sides), but I thought at least one was tight.

No worries though with about 15 minutes to go ... Washington went through one on one, rounded the keeper and slotted home. Mayhem behind the goal as we celebrated again.

The icing on the cake came from Mass who hit one into the corner through a crowd of players with a couple of minutes to go.

1-3! We could almost relax in those 4 minutes of injury time.

My MOTM would be Washington - he ran all afternoon, scored, and hit a post with a shot that then spun out crossed the goal; before going for a goal kick. I still think out tactics don't bring out the best in DC, and if we played to his strengths he would score more regularly.

I'm feeling very happy tonight though, so no gripes!

The whole team played well, and the youngsters who came in played their part. I was really chuffed for Oteh getting his goal.

Nine points clear of the drop zone, and if Forest don't beat Villa tonight we will have gone up three places too.

A very happy R tonight.

Thanks for that. Good to hear encouraging words for Conor...I'd given up on him like most on here. Some possibilities for us in the February home fixtures so let's hope the lads don't let this chance slip.

I forgot to add ...

Our first ever win over Burton and the most goals we have scored in a game this season.

Zenith, many thanks for that, interesting what you say about Washington, I'm not a fan of his
but food for thought.

Looks like a proper good old away end at Burton right on the pitch a real oldschool atmosphere.

Fair play to all that went.

Fair play to the lad today can’t fault him any game for effort, sounds like he had a good one but it’s no surprise as for all intents and purposes it was against a league1 side which as we all know is his level.

Hope he has a good second half of the season hand on heart I do but I won’t be loosing any sleep if we cut all ties anytime soon.
