Smithies signs contract extension

Post by Satch » Fri Feb 17, 2017 5:07 pm

Great news.

Smithies has signed an extension until the end of the 2020 season. Whilst i don't know whether we'll manage to keep him but hopefully, we will and if not we should get a good price.

GWLS also reporting how he personally thinks his form could improve. Which given how good he has been, is a refreshing attitude. Turing out to be an excellent acquisition by our unfairly lamented scouting department.

Great news - I do think we are on the road to getting a decent line up together - just need a bit of confidence amongst the ranks from a win or three!

Big statement! Paddy Kenny in the league winning season was the best for me. Smithies is great but there have been one or two Greeno style howlers, once he's ironed those out he'll be be top class.

Smithies is a far better keeper than Kenny imo.

No comparison. Paddy was a very average keeper.

Smithies over Kenny for me. The latter responsible for the precipitous decline of the Taarabt and the seed of the tree of our ugly fruit.
Keep an open mind, but not so open that your brain falls out.

Smithies for me too - and at 26 his best years are well ahead of him.

But, how do you make Kenny responsible for Taarabt's decline? Did he take him to too many 'parties'?

If memory serves Kenny beat Taarabt to fans player or the year (smacks of russian/general aladin/Chad voting irregularities) and Adel's brain melted as a result.

Correct! AT was voted the Championship POTY but wasn't deemed good enough their own POTY by the QPR fans.

Well remembered guys. However, I'd suggest that sadly, even though Taarabt would have been irked by that, he's more than able to self destruct all by himself.

That said he seems to be doing ok at Genoa so far. I hope he's learnt his lessons. Football needs such players.
