Andy, and I agree with you. And some. The history of humanity has sadly been the story of the appropriation of power by one to rule over the other in which racism has been a disgusting tool to maintain domination.
Not sure about that dm. Racism to me is really a 20th century phenomenon although the seeds were sown earlier. Blame Religion historically and the desire for world domination.
I get lost with all the labelling nowadays. It wasn't so long ago we had soul music but now we have R&B, rap, dubstep, garage, hippity hop and to me so many other things get labelled as racism.
I know what you mean Rbee but I think there have been examples of racism going back for centuries. Aristotle believed his race, the Greeks, were inherently superior to the barbarians, all the non-Greeks. Then the transatlantic slave trade from the 16th century was in part justified by a belief that Africans were sub-human, as was the so-called Race for Africa in the 19th century in which European countries colonised and divided up the continent.
Then in the 20th century, we have multiple examples to which you allude.
Religion has played its part but I think the desire for power and riches by the elite has always been the biggest driving force.

Interesting that I know Frenchmen in London who have suffered racism and discrimination too, for centuries
denigrating the French was common.
But the fact is that if you're black and walking down the street or going for a job interview
you're more liable to get some negative reaction
than if you're white and Jewish/French/Communist/Catholic/Gay
Colour seems to be a last taboo - Windrush & Grenfell underlines that.
