The Paradise Papers

Post by dm » Mon Nov 06, 2017 12:55 pm

Are people really surprised at this? We've had this news many times before and not just the Panama Papers last year. I work for an NGO that's been looking into this issue for over 10 years. It's what the super wealthy have always done in one form or another! We'll no doubt move on in a few days time and forget all about it until the next tax 'scandal'.

Quite right, Sheepy.

Along with major corporations such as Google and Amazon, these fine upstanding individuals should be congratulated on their determination to avoid paying tax, even it involves creating elaborate company structures around the world that bear no relation to where their services are delivered.

Makes you proud to be British.

Gawd bless you Ma'am.

I suppose to be fair to Brenda, she probably doesn't know where all her money is invested. I know she pays taxes but on a voluntary basis. As already said above 'twas ever thus.

Yeah, fair do's, she was duped.

Thought she'd got a good deal on a new throne at £50 a week from BrightHouse, but didn't factor in the 150% APR. Should have read the small print, but then it is difficult to do so at her age.

I was nearly as shocked by that news as I was by the news that the famous humaintarian Bono has been mentioned in all this... sorry, Saint Bono.

They should all invest in legitimate EU/EEA locations such as Switzerland, Gib, IoM, Cyprus, Malta etc. There are some very weak regulatory regimes on our doorstep so stop being so scathing of these countries. We live in a global world and its not where you invest its what you fail to declare thats the issue. Uk ate now required to declare financial products held by USA nations and this will continue to grow through data sharing to crack down on tax evasion, not avoidance.

Google etc have not broken any laws and route their profits in the most efficient way. They more morally corupt and its for law makets to change their laws to tax them in other ways.

By far the greatest injustice with tax evasion is that corporate tax dodging costs poor countries at least $100 billion every year. That's $100 billion that won't get spent on hospitals, schools and services so desperately needed in those countries.

But what celebrities and the Queen squirrel away is far more interesting.

Can join his mate Gelfoff. All great men of principle!!
It would be great to see Billy Bragg and Morrissey dragged into this. Although the latter is still writing about the poor from his pad in LA
