I note John Bercow was not opposed by Labour in the election is this a convention between the two parties. If so why, he was not speaker at the time as there will be vote in the new parliament for a new speaker

It is odd as technically the reason given that is not to stand against the speaker is invalid as there is no speaker after a general election is called. Clearly it is not a constitutional point as others stand. I can understand why the voters of Buckingham are annoyed.
