Congratulations Perth Scorchers

Post by WA Hoop » Sun Jan 29, 2017 2:11 am

In 6 BBL competitions the Perth Scorchers have now made 5 finals and won 3. Why? Because they play like a team. Justin Langer had it spot on in saying the reason for their success is that the team is fundamentally a West Australian state team with some carefully selected imports (take a bow Bell, Bresnan & Willey). IMHO a team that is far more than the sum of its parts.
Question everything.

I take it you're not a fan of cricket (T20 or otherwise)? Some rather recognisable names may have provided you with the odd clue.

Perth has a 20-20 team?

I didn't even know they were playing that type of Cricket in Scotland.

There's more than one place called Perth.

Why is it called Perth?

Well done indeed Scorchers! Obviously the English players were instrumental in the teams success.

A few years back I watched Perth Glory v Sydney Marconi and it was really a good game, higher standard than I expected.

The game was played on the evening of the 23rd December, a pleasant 75 degrees with the crowd in good spirits singing Christmas carols along with the usual Glory chants.

Here's an idea for some, if you are uninterested in a thread (especially a non-QPR one) then don't post.

Rbee, the English played their part (3 wickets for Bresnan in the final, Bell 31 n.o.) but not quite instrumental in the team's success. Love T20 or loathe T20, the BBL has been exceptionally popular & successful product attracting many high profile overseas players. So much so the IPL has almost been forgotten about in these parts.

I'm not a big fan of the A League, the standard is generally not that great but there again let's be honest nor is the Championship (or EFL if you wish). Perth Glory have recently announced a pre-season friendly against Chelsea in 2018 at the new 65,000 seater stadium. Undoubtedly it will sell out, we can only hope that most turn up to hurl dogs abuse at that lot from Shameful Bridge.

Oh and by the way, in answer to the question, Perth was named by Captain James Stirling in honour of Minister for War & the Colonies, Sir George Murray's whose birthplace was Perth, Scotland.
Question everything.

Fantasic city Perth and I lived in Mosman Park for six months in 97. Watched the Glory play once and stood on the terrace and it was great fun. I havent followed them since but a 65k stadium seems optimistic as it seems to be cricket and ozzy rules focused?

That's some juxtaposition from your previous post! The new Perth stadium is indeed primarily AFL / Cricket focussed and it's unlikely that the Glory will find themselves playing there too often.
Question everything.
