Re: Matt Smith signing confirmed
It's not as if those were the only two options. He would have been out of contract in the summer and I don't think there was a big queue of clubs trying to sign him.QPR-NI wrote:Presumably the guy still had a contract of some kind at Fulham?
3 and a half years is hardly unreasonable. Pay as you play is hardly likely to entice many half decent players.

Pleased with this signing: a good price and will be a decent option up front.

1] Don't pretend he is a tippy-tappy classy footballer.
2] Get an X tattooed on his head.
3] Tell Freeman he is to take all the set-pieces and aim for the X.

Similar to Charlie Austin.....
A dwindling value as his contract runs down and would be allowed to leave for free come the summer....
£4M? for Charlie £500K? for Smith
Seems reasonable...
We might make some money when we sell him on similar to Polter as I quite like seeing us make a profit on players these days.... lets hope he's hungry!

Would rather we foci on the football and not the money. I still dont give a rodent tail what someone costs.. and have given us feeling frustrated about the earnings.

A Fulham fan posted this on another board:
On the bright side, you've got a really nice guy in Smith and ON PAPER, he'd be a good 1-2 punch with Washington, as I think that's what Holloway's going for with the whole target man thing. Only problem is that Smith has no ability on the ground whatsoever and wins about 1 or 2 headers per game against defenders, effectively rendering him useless.
Of course, I could be proven wrong and Holloway is a tactical genius where Smith scores every header.

Listensed to the Podcast with Matt on and he comes across as an intelligent lad.
Didn't sign for Andy Sinton when he was manager of Tamworth as wanted to finish his studies.

Speaking of whom, could we have him back on loan, not featuring for Southampton at all.

FFS
I'm hoping this is a wind-up, although people do seem obsessed with trying to cast Austin's move to Southhampton as a failure, i assume it is out of spite.
He's recovering from shoulder surgery and has been since December, until that point he's played 16 games and scored 9 goals.

City were trying to sign him last season after his successful lian spell the season before, Fulham wouldn't let him go.
He formed a very effective partnership up front with JET; they worked really well together. Just a thought as you now have both players.
Cheers for the three points BTW, we were more in need of them and now we both look like staying up.

QPR are my second team - not many Bristol City fans can say that!
